5 must haves for every seamstress!

5 must haves for every seamstress!

Whether you're just starting out or if you've been in the sewing game for many years, all seamstresses need these key tools in their lives!

1. A dependable serger-

I love my Brother 1034D! I actually own three of this exact model. It creates strong, professional seams and works well on all fabric types. If you've been sewing on a standard sewing machine, investing in a reliable serger will be a complete game changer for you! I recommend grabbing a pack of replacment knives while you're at it.

2. Ottlite lighting-

Bright lighting helps so much with color matching, rhinestoning, and prevents you from straining your eyes. My Ottlites provide the most accurate lighting when I am trying to coordinate fabrics, and they are great for brightening up a space for a quick picture! I have the standing floor lamp near my cutting tables, and the magnifying smaller desk lamp sits beside my standard sewing machine. (You can see it in the photo above!) I don't have the fan version... yet! How cool would that be for great light and getting rid of glue fumes when rhinestoning though?! It's on my wish list!

3. Cutting Mat-

The size you need will depend a lot on your projects and the size of your space, but my 36x59 mat is a life saver! I cut all of my projects on this mat, and it has held up very well.

You can see my big cutting mat in this photo! It's awesome!!

4. Rotary Cutter-

Let me let you in on a secret, you don't need scissors. Seriously. I haven't cut anything out with scissors in years! Grab a rotary cutter and a pack of blades then come back and thank me later. My rotary cutters are easily my most used tools in the workshop. Don't forget the replacement blades! Or grab this value set with a cutter and extra blade!

5. Wonder Clips-

Once you switch to clips, you'll never pick up a pin again! These clips come in multiple sizes, and I have several! I've linked my favorite style below. They are so easy to use, and you don't have to worry if they get dumped in the floor. (Yes it's happened... more than once!) I have one task that requires pins, but I am a clips girl 99% of the time!
