Let's talk dance photos! More specifically, let's talk about capturing fun photos of your dancer for their (or your) social media pages. One thing is certain, and that is dancers LOVE to strike a pose and strut around in their favorite dancewear!! 🤩
Instagram is flooded with dance photos, so I want to help your photos stand out from the crowd! Here are 5 tips for your next dance photo shoot!
1. Explore Backgrounds
The world is full of fun backgrounds! From nature to city settings, you are sure to have many options close by. Unique backgrounds instantly draw more eyes to your photos. Once you start looking for photo locations, your eyes will always be open! I'm constantly wishing that I had a model in a SewCC leo with me to snap a few shots while I am out!
2. Play with angles
Angles can completely change a shot! Here are 2 photos with the same posing. One is shot straight on and the second is shot from slightly above. Just a slight angle shift can give a photo an entirely different look!
3. Utilize props
When used correctly, props can enhance your dancers photos the same way they enhance a routine. Some of my favorite props are holiday themed- Halloween, Christmas, and Easter are always a fun time to pull out props. I also love using food props, like this cute photo of ambassador Taiz- photo taken by her mom.
Flowers are always a fun addition! You can find beautiful fake flowers here. The bonus with fake flowers is that you can use them year round!
Chloe loved when I pulled out this sun hat for a photo shoot!
It looks like my glitter chalkboard sign is no longer available, but you can find a similar heart sign here. You can add your own gold glitter if you'd like!
4. Capture their personality
Facials are a huge part of what makes a photo! Forced smiles in a photo are never fun. Tell a cheesy joke to make your model laugh and relax. Let them try out an excited face, a sassy look, and a soft smile to change things up.
5. Wear bold dancewear
This one sounds like a no brainer. If your dancer loves what they are wearing and feels comfortable, they will perform better during photo shoots!
Choose a new outfit for your next shoot here! I personally love the look of solids and lace for pictures but printed sets are fun too!
Self shot photo shoots are a great way to get out of the house and kill a little time. (And we need that now more than ever!) Have your dancer put on her favorite SewCC, and go exploring for fun picture locations! Call a friend or two to come along for the ride (if your state allows it), grab some props, and let your dancer(s) pose for you for a few hours!
